Pendekar Bujang Lapok is a black-and-white Malay comedy film produced in Singapore in 1959, and directed by P. Ramlee , as a follow-up film in the Bujang Lapok film series after the film of the same name in 1957.
Synopsis
This story begins when 3 good friends witnessed the greatness of Pendekar Mustar defeating two thugs (boat mining workers) at Penambang Sampan Sungai Kemunting. Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz went to find him until they reached Kampung Pinang Sebatang. The purpose of these three bachelors was to study martial arts with Pendekar Mustar.
Before reaching Pendekar Mustar’s house, they met and followed Rosnah (coincidentally, she was Pendekar Mustar’s daughter) who was returning home after finishing teaching (becoming a teacher) at the Public School for the Illiterate in Kampung Pinang Sebatang.
Because she didn’t like the behavior of Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz when they teased and followed her home, Rosnah complained to her father (Pendekar Mustar) that the three of them were bothering her and accusing her of being thieves. Therefore, Pendekar Mustar challenged Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz to a silat fight. However, her heart softened when they managed to stop Pendekar Mustar’s steps (by lifting and supporting him) and expressed their desire to come to learn silat.
Pendekar Mustar’s actions made Rosnah angry. And when she met her mother, Rosnah said: “Hate that father, when she meets someone, she immediately takes them home”. Likewise, when her mother met Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz, she liked them too. Rosnah’s attitude became a problem not only for Pendekar Mustar but also for Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz.
Meanwhile, the boat captain, who had bruises on his eyes and his workers who were acting like thugs (Pendekar Mustar thought they were oil-smuggling thugs) who were beaten up by the people at the mine after being stunned by the reliability shown by Pendekar Mustar, had ordered three thugs to search Pendekar Mustar’s house and also three Bujang Lapok.
Because they were too worried that Ros (Rosnah’s nickname) would not like them being in the house, Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz tried to win her heart by singing the song “Maafkan Kami”. As a result, Rosnah’s heart softened and she began to like them.
When learning isem (Arabic noun اسم ), what Pendekar Mustar said was different from what Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz wrote. With that Pendekar Mustar knew that the three Bujang Lapok did not know how to write and read. So Pendekar Mustar ordered that Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz go to study at an illiterate school taught by Cikgu Rosnah.
While learning silat, they each tried to woo Rosnah, however, Ros showed more interest in Ramlee. As soon as the whereabouts of Pendekar Mustar and Bujang Lapok were known, the boatman came to Pendekar Mustar’s house to claim compensation worth 74 ringgit 71 sen for the losses he suffered during the fight in Penambang. But Pendekar Mustar and his students, namely Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz, refused to pay.
When Rosnah appears, the boatman with the basket eyes is captivated by Rosnah’s beauty and makes a condition that the debt can be paid if Pendekar Mustar wants to marry his daughter Rosnah to him. Rosnah is angry and refuses. Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz try to show off their silat skills even though they have just been taught by Pendekar Mustar.
Likewise, Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz’s bluffs also succeeded in making the boatman and his men leave Pendekar Mustar’s house. But suddenly Aziz screamed in pain after being hit by a stone thrown by one of the thugs that hit his forehead. Pendekar Mustar asked: “Why didn’t you dodge?” Aziz replied: “How can I dodge? Uncle Cik hasn’t taught me how to dodge stones yet.” They all laughed.
To continue his knowledge and resist the “trial”, Pendekar Mustar sent Aziz to a blind well, Sudin to an empty house that had been abandoned for a long time and Ramlee was directed to the grave. However, each of them failed to face the “trial” that Pendekar Mustar wanted. Because they had just been tested with the first trial, they had already run away.
After that, Pendekar Mustar told them to go to the graves of the people who had been killed and this time they were determined not to be afraid and run away, they would still resist the “trial”. While they were demanding, Pendekar Mustar was attacked by the thugs of the sampan tauke and tied up with his wife and his maid. Rosnah was also taken away to be handed over to the sampan tauke. Although Ros was taken away in front of their eyes and asked for help, they did not care and considered it an “trial”.
Pendekar Mustar and his maid (Aini) tried various ways to explain that Ros being kidnapped by the thugs really happened and was not an “attempt”, but Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz still considered it an “attempt” as well, causing Pendekar Mustar to throw himself on the ground. However, after being given the best explanation possible by Pendekar Mustar’s wife, Rosnah’s mother, they woke up from their “attempt” reverie and wasted no time in going to the boat house to save Rosnah.
Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz, using the knowledge they had learned, defeated all the thugs, including their leader, Tauke Sampan. Ros was saved. For their courage in fighting the thugs, capturing their leader and saving Ros, Pendekar Mustar called Ramlee, Sudin and Aziz – “Pendekar Bujang Lapok”.

Ali Baba Bujang Lapok is a 1961 Singaporean comedy film directed by, written by and starring Malaysian silver-screen legend P. Ramlee and produced in Singapore by Malay Film Productions Ltd. Based loosely on the story of Ali Baba from 1001 Arabian Nights, the film is occasionally self-referential and contains elements of anarchic comedy, burlesque comedy and farce. The title includes the suffix Bujang Lapok because it is the third instalment in the Bujang Lapok series of comedy films that star the trio of P. Ramlee, S. Shamsuddin and Aziz Sattar. This film marked the feature film debut of Sarimah, who would go on to a long movie career, and is also notable as one of the few P. Ramlee films where he plays the villain.
Plot
Ali Baba (Aziz Sattar) is a poor man who cannot succeed in life. He constantly sends his wife to his brother Kassim Baba’s house to borrow flour so they can eat, but the stingy Kassim Baba (S. Shamsuddin) is frustrated at his brother and constantly reminds his wife, Aloyah, of Ali Baba’s uselessness. When Aloyah comes to ask for flour for the umpteenth time, Kassim Baba loses his temper and lashes out at her sending her home in tears. She blames Ali Baba for putting her in the situation and blames him for not making an effort to seek a job. Ali Baba finally relents and goes out into the woods to gather firewood where he chances upon a group of 40 thieves marching through the woods carrying loot and treasures. He hides in a tree and watches their leader (P. Ramlee) stand in front of a cave and sings a verse of seemingly nonsensical words (niat ingsun matek aji semar ngising, actually a Javanese language poem) which causes an entrance to the cave to open. Ali Baba waits until the thieves have all left the cave before coming out of the tree and using the magic words to open the cave. Inside, he discovers a variety of riches and wealth, but only takes a box of gold coins.
With the gold coins, Ali Baba is able to pay Kassim back everything he owes and live in better comfort. Kassim Baba is overcomed with curiosity and pesters Ali Baba to tell him how he suddenly came into wealth. Ali Baba eventually relents and tells Kassim about the cave and the magical verse to open it, but before he can tell him the verse to close the cave, or about the thieves who use it, Kassim Baba rushes off to find the cave.
Kassim, in his greed, tries to steal everything in the cave. The thieves return, find the cave door open and quickly close it. Kassim, who has forgotten the chant to reopen the door, is trapped and caught. Kassim tries to stall, but the thieves eventually kill him. When Kassim does not return home, Ali Baba sneaks out to the cave, where he finds his brothers’ remains. He collects Kassim and has him sewn together by bribing the town cobbler, Apek, to do it.
The thieves eventually hear of Apek’s strange “job”, and identify Kassim Baba as the man they’d killed. The thieves plan to rob his house, which is now under the protection of Ali Baba. This attempt fails twice thanks to the interference of Marjina, Ali Baba’s newest servant. The leader of the thieves, enraged by his men’s incompetence, decides to look for the house himself. Once he has found it, he poses as an oil merchant visiting Ali Baba’s house, while his thieves hide in oil jars that are kept in the courtyard. Marjina discover the hidden thieves and, with the help of Ali Baba’s wife and widowed sister-in-law, pour boiling oil into all the individual jars. After all the thieves are defeated, Marjina attacks and kills the leader himself. Ali Baba, grateful for her loyalty, sets her free.
Anachronisms
Although Ali Baba Bujang Lapok is filmed as a period piece set in an unidentified country with a Middle-Eastern look, it is filled with deliberate anachronisms which are used for humour. Among them are the appearances of bicycles, motorcycles, trucks, a Vespa scooter, telephones and guns. When on leave, the 40 thieves also dress as various anachronistic characters, among them a cowboy, wig-wearing judge and a World War 2-era Japanese soldier.
In addition, the 40 thieves seem to function as a proper business, offering members health benefits, performance-based bonuses and overtime pay. Like the above anachronistic items, these are played for humorous effect (e.g. the leader of the thieves turns down a job because Sunday is a public holiday, and when the irate requester threatens to find other thieves the leader warns that if he does so the Thieves Union will take action).
Besides, the movie is also notable for mocking the legal status of cannabis and opium in Malaysia for humorous effect. It is shown in a scene where Marjina is buying some belacan at the city market, where the seller claims that selling cannabis and opium is legal but belacan is illegal, as it is smuggled from Malaya, even though the actual legal status for those three items in Malaysia is the opposite and word of ganja and candu are mute out by shrimp paste smuggler.

Summary
Plot
This film tells the story of the lives of three single people, Ramlee, Ajis and Sudin, who live in a crowded housing area. Living unemployed without any jobs or livelihood, one day they try their luck as film actors.
The studio manager had promised to give them a chance to act if they could prove their acting talent in a ‘screen test’. It turned out that their antics and acting talent had caught the attention of the studio manager.
Will the fame they will experience as movie stars change their fate?
Story
This time’s story features Bujang Lapok (Ramli ( P. Ramlee ), Sudin ( S. Shamsuddin ) & Ajis ( Aziz Satar ) who are unemployed and trying to find work. They live in a large house and are inhabited by various layers of society who have their own problems.
One day, after seeing a siar raya (advertisement) for Shaw Brothers Limited’s latest film, they were inspired to become artists. They are getting ready to go to Jalan Ampas studio .
There, Manager Kemat Hassan, the studio manager, did not reject their application to serve as artists. They were taken to meet Director Ahmad Nisfu for a screen test.
Mental pain and blood-curdling, that’s what the Director felt when carrying out the screen process. What was told was different, what was done. Under the rays of the full moon was replaced with under the rays of a kerosene lamp. Asked to follow the dialogue, pretending to make up their own dialogue. All kinds of antics shown by the Bujang Lapok trio.
However, the Manager was very satisfied even though the Director seemed to disagree. Whatever it was, Bujang Lapok was now titled ‘Artist’.
Ramli and Salmah ( Saloma ) were chatting in the garden. Making love while joking around. After that, Ramli went home. At home, Sudin and Ajis were busy memorizing dialogues for tomorrow.
The atmosphere of peace and tranquility was never experienced in the crowded house. Pity them because it was difficult to concentrate. If the husband and his 2 wives were not fighting loudly, then the sound of trumpets blowing discordantly from one room to another. Screams, the sound of motorcycles, the sound of the radio and more.
The next day they acted. Because of their excitement that gave the Director a headache, the Director himself fainted. What fate befell them as artists? They went about their work and life as usual.
There is another big problem. Ramli loves Salmah and wants to marry her. But Ramli has no money. Meanwhile, Salmah is told by her mother to marry Shariff Dol , a rich and influential gangster in Kampung Dusun.
Aware of his formidable rival, Ramli tries to win over Salmah. Ramli and Shariff Dol meet one-on-one. Even then, Ramlee faints after being badly beaten.
Salmah and Shariff’s engagement was called off when Salmah’s mother found out the truth. Shariff Dol said, don’t regret it Salmah. This news was welcomed with joy by Ramli.
As Ramli’s roommate, Sudin helps with his magic stone. What a fate. Expected RM350 but only got RM5 from Manager Kemat Hassan.
Fortunately, Salmah had savings and was able to save the situation. After chatting happily, they went home. They were shocked to find that their house was on fire. How did it start? Did someone set it on fire? Salmah thought it was something done by Shariff Dol. They gathered in a crowd. Then they went to Shariff Dol’s house.
At Shariff Dol’s house, Ramli beat Shariff up until Shariff Dol surrendered. Ramlee’s action was following the discovery of Shariff Dol’s wallet near their house. Shariff Dol was arrested and handed over to the police.
After that, Salmah brought good news to Ramli. They could get married because the money that was thought to have been burned had actually been safely stored by her mother at the Post Office.
